Halloween...

The day we know as Halloween grew out of the Old World Festival known as Samhain, which was celebrated by the ancient Celtic tribes of northwestern Europe.

Samhain means "summer's end" and was the most sacred of all Celtic festivals. After a busy time of gathering the harvest and driving the livestock from the meadows to their stalls, the Celts prepared for the onset of winter.

A traditional feast was held to celebrate the earth's bounty, and public bonfires built by Druid priests symbolized renewed life and light's powerful ability to overcome the greatest darkness.
